03 / TEST

Periodic testing

Scheduled testing so you know the system will work when it’s needed, with results recorded each time.

  • Monthly function tests
  • Annual full-duration tests
  • Test results for your logbook

04 / REPAIR

Faults & maintenance

Fixing failed fittings, batteries and wiring faults found during testing or reported by your team.

  • Remedial recommendations and records

02 / TESTING & RECORDS

Tested regularly.
Recorded properly.

BS 5266-1 recommends a short function test every month and a full rated-duration test every year, with the results recorded. Many sites also need evidence of testing for their fire risk assessment, insurer or inspections.

We can carry out the tests on a schedule that fits your building, record the results and fix any faults we find, so your records stay complete.

03 / BEFORE YOU ENQUIRE

Common questions.

How often should emergency lighting be tested?

BS 5266-1 recommends a brief function test monthly and a full rated-duration test annually, with results recorded. Your fire risk assessment may set out specific requirements for your premises.

Will the annual test leave the building without lighting?

After a full-duration test the batteries need time to recharge. We plan the test, often in sections or out of hours, so the building isn’t left without emergency lighting while people are using it.

Can you test emergency lighting alongside our fire alarm?

Yes. ESS works on fire alarm systems and electrical testing too, so visits can often be combined.

Where do you work?

ESS is based in Handsworth, Sheffield, and works across South Yorkshire and beyond. Tell us your site location and the work required so we can confirm availability.
